Group category pages

Starting from 3.0.0.0. Group categories now have their own pages. The pages contain the group category stream and the group listing within the category.  The group category stream – a stream made up from all group posts within the category the current user has the right to see. Administrators can define custom avatars and covers and custom URL slug in the backend configuration. This allows you to categorize your community content in more ways, and since one group can be in multiple categories, the resulting system is more flexible than the idea of sub-groups.

To get group categories on your site you need to enable the setting in the backend configuration and create some group categories in manage group categories. Group category page can be accessed when users click on the group category title in the groups page.

Configurable Default Notifications For New Group Members

These settings allow admins to set the defaults for the new groups memberships.
Navigate to WP Admin -> PeepSo -> Configuration -> Groups
In Advanced panel you can find 2 settings:

  1. Automatically subscribe new members to notifications – Enabled: new group members will automatically be subscribed to receive new posts notifications on-site
  2. Automatically subscribe new members to e-mails – Enabled: new group members will automatically be subscribed to receive new posts e-mail notification

When both are deactivated, users joining groups won’t get any notifications from the groups they’re a part of.

Notify Admins When New Group Is Created

Allowing your community to create groups can be quite tricky at times and keeping track of what groups were created and when might be proven difficult. Not anymore, though. All of your administrators can be now notified when a new group gets created. Simply navigate to WP Admin -> PeepSo -> Configuration -> Groups
In Advanced panel find E-mail Admins when a new group is created option and set it to Yes.
All admins will be notified by email when a group gets created.

Follow / Unfollow Group Activity & Notifications

Some communities are so active that group content might clutter the activity stream a bit. For users not to be forced to leave groups to avoid the extra information, there’s a exciting group setting. It’s set by a group member per group. Members can decide whether to follow or unfollow groups.

If you unfollow a group, posts from that group will not show on the main Community feed. You’re still a group member and when you go to that group you’ll see all posts. Same with Friends and Groups feeds on the Recent Activity page. This is enabled by default for all existing groups as well as new ones.

There are three (3) options available:

  1. Follow – this will show all the posts from the group in Community activity stream
  2. Be notified – Onsite notifications for activities within the group will be sent to user
  3. Receive e-mails – Email notifications will be sent to user ragarding activities in the group

Group Members Filtering

Group members view gets a nice clear division for roles filtering. There are 4 sub-views of members:

  1. All Members – lists every group member.
  2. Management – lists Owner, Moderators and Managers in the next 1.8.10 release.
  3. Pending – users who applied to join a group.
  4. Banned – banned users where owners can decide to unban them.

Group owners as well as site admins can now have a great bird’s-eye view of their group members. Promoting and demoting users has just been improved and made easier than ever.

Manage Group Members
