New Release: PeepSo 2.7.3 and Gecko 2.7.3.0

An incremental improvement of the notification previews along with further foundations of the new notification engine.

Notifications & Previews

We have further improved the notification preview generation (also known as “human readable previews”) to better handle posts and comments without any text (for example only a photo, only a location, only a mood etc.). We also included group names in system-generated notifications such as “User joined your group”.

Preparing for a new notification engine rollout in 2.8.0 we also introduced changes in how users subscribe to Group notifications. Just like it was changed in the previous release for all other notifications, it is now impossible to subscribe to Group e-mail notifications without subscribing to on-site notifications. This change is in line with the new notification engine which will utilize on-site notifications as a source queue for all other notification types and open an avenue to implement push notifications and much more.

Other changes

We fixed a bug with the recently released WPAdverts 1.4 where users were unable to create ads. The fix should not interfere with older versions of WPAdverts.

Group listings now follow the global “read more button” settings, including the button repetition every number of items.

The official recommended PHP version from now on is PHP 7.3, and we are planning to phase out PHP 5 support in the coming months. Read the whole announcement here.
