PeepSo 1.5.3 Is Out!

PeepSo 1.5.3 is now available. That’s great news… but there’s even better news.

We’ve decided to give away three of our premium plugins for free! Pretty cool, huh? Yea, we think so too! You can read more about it here.

PeepSo 1.5.3 is a minor release, focusing on bug fixes and small improvements. We’ve also improved the views in the backend on mobile devices so administrators can now manage their sites with even greater ease.

Other improvements include better alignment of some elements in specific browsers and chat handling on mobile devices. Also we improved how ‘likes’ are displayed. They’re more prominent now.

PeepSo 1.5.2 is out. A great start to the new year!

This is a minor release focusing on bug fixes and WordPress 4.4 compatibility. We really emphasized the code quality and testing during not only this update but all the previous ones, and when we checked PeepSo on WP 4.4 we found a slight misalignment of styles in the backend configuration options – that’s been fixed. Apart from this there were just a few minor bugs. It’s all good now.

Deep in development

We’re still deep in the development of Customizable Profile Fields. When they’re ready, you’ll be able to create profiles exactly the way you want. We’re also working on improving the current functions and adding new features.

PeepSo 1.5.1 Is Out And Ready For You To Download

PeepSo 1.5.1

PeepSo 1.5.1

PeepSo 1.5.1 is the most advanced and stable version we have released so far. It comes with a lot of improvements, bugfixes and even a couple of new features.

New Feature! – Order Your Photos

Adding lots of photos to postbox has always been a great feature. But we felt that it was time to offer even more. Now you can not only upload multiple photos at once, you can also arrange them so that they are in the order you prefer. It’s great when you want your pictures to tell a story.

Rearrange photos in postbox.

New Feature! – Mute Conversations

Sometimes you want to focus but you don’t want to turn off the entire chat feature. You just want to turn off one annoying person or group.

You’ve got it. Now you can mute conversations, and you can even apply time settings so that no one will thinking you’re blocking them forever.

Starting from PeepSo 1.5.1 you will also have control over who can write on your profile wall. You can choose between site members, friends, and nobody but
you.

Improved Cropping, Friend Requests, Themes, And More

We take PeepSo development very seriously. We want PeepSo to be the best social networking experience available for WordPress regardless of the device. So we redesigned the entire cropping library. You can now crop your profile picture easily on a mobile device.

This version of PeepSo also comes with unified handling of friend requests and three-state buttons. Every user listing uses the same logic, less duplicate code, and the same experience throughout the application.

We improved compatibility with the Divi theme from Elegant Themes. We tested PeepSo extensively with the theme as well as with the Divi builder. It looks great and works so smoothly.

Validation on the config options in the backend of PeepSo has also been improved. Validation now happens in real time instead of waiting until after you hit the ‘Save’ button. If there’s a problem with the values, you’ll know immediately.

Bugs Were Squished In The Making Of This Version

A bit of bug squishing means that you can now send images through chat not only in PeepSo view, but from anywhere on the site. And adding anything before or after the PeepSo Shortcodes on pages won’t cause any problems.

This Is What Else We’re Doing

We’re continuing to make PeepSo better with each release and we couldn’t be prouder.

And yes, we are working on adding custom fields to user profiles. The deadline isn’t set, but we want to release it as quickly as you want to use it 🙂

Once that’s done, we’ll start working on Groups.

BuddyPress to PeepSo Migrator 1.0.2 Is Out!

BuddyPress has introduced profile covers. That great news! It’s always good to see BuddyPress getting some kind of improvement.

So we’ve updated our BuddyPress to PeepSo Migrator.

PeepSo to Buddy Press Migration Tool

Adding cover photos in profiles is important. So is the ability to adjust the photo so that it looks exactly the way you want. Since many users can’t — or can’t be bothered — to crop their cover images, PeepSo allows users to reposition their cover photos.

It’s as easy as this:

Vertical cover photo adjustment

Even panoramas are a breeze:

And the migration process is very simple too. Just a few clicks and your community has migrated.

BuddyPress to PeepSo migrator is completely free. It’s available here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/peepsomigrate

It’s also available from the backend of WordPress. Go to Plugins > Add new and search for ‘PeepSo’.

PeepSo 1.5.0 Is Out And Ready For You To Download

PeepSo 1.5.0 is a major release with lots of changes. Not all of the changes are visible but you will be able to see the design improvements, the addition of ‘Read More’ links to posts and comments, and the reorganization of PeepSo images, letting you customize your community to fit your needs.

Design Improvements

We removed the gray background from both the Light and the Dark themes. Now PeepSo blends so much better with the backgrounds of various themes. It looks perfect on solid backgrounds and on textured backgrounds based on images or patterns. You can see how beautifully it turned out in the screenshots below.

In addition to removing the background, we also added plenty of small tweaks and changes that help PeepSo to blend better into your site’s theme.

Very long posts or comments can take up valuable space on the stream. Allowing members to write really long posts means that other users have to do plenty of tedious scrolling to reach the content they want to read.

Read More settings in PeepSo Configuration.

That’s why we introduced the ‘Read More’ feature. Site admins can now set the amount of text to show on each post before a ‘Read More’ link shows the rest. You can also choose to display particularly long posts in their own view.

Long comments under posts can also be abbreviated with a ‘Read More’ link, but we didn’t create a single post view for comments.

Navigation Changes

To improve the profile navigation, we shortened the submenu of ‘Profile’ and put the ‘Stream’ and ‘About Me’ sections in separate views. Now the navigation is clearer and simpler for the end user.

ChatSo Improvements

The biggest improvement in ChatSo is its integration with the PicSo plugin. From this version on, you and your users will be able to send images directly from chat.

The number of open chat windows also now adjusts to the size of your window so you can comfortably open more than four chats at the same time if you want.

Changes Under-The-Hood

One of the biggest improvements still under way is the preparation of PeepSo for handling customizable profiles. The first phase is done: we have refactored the code so that it can easily handle the existing fields and values in a new DB structure. The next phase will focus on allowing admins to customize the existing default fields, and phase three will introduce new field types including single select, multiple select, text field/area.

Make The Community Yours

You can now customize avatars, profile covers and virtually any image in PeepSo. Overriding PeepSo CSS has always been easy. Now we’ve made the customization of PeepSo images just as simple. Here’s documentation on how to do it plus a quick video below.

Other Bug Fixes And Improvements

Whenever you edit the configuration you will receive a notification of a change to the site’s values. It’s an automatic reminder to save or discard your changes.

PeepSo 1.4.2 Is Out!

PeepSo 1.4.2 is a hotfix release that also features small improvements. We addressed a few issues that were brought to our attention and that we felt needed immediate care.

We also added a setting in users’ profiles that allows them to show whether or not they’re online. Not everyone wants to share that information and we do understand the need for privacy. Your users can change their setting in their preferences.

PeepSo 1.4.1 Is Out!

PeepSo 1.4.1 focused on bugfixes and small improvements to PeepSo’s existing features. Some of the enhancements are strictly under-the-hood but others make PeepSo look—as well as behave—better than ever.

Dark Theme

We added a button in PeepSo config that switches PeepSo to Darth… Dark… DARK THEME. This is just the beginning of a long term plan for PeepSo to blend into various colored themes. If you wish to customize PeepSo’s CSS, I recommend reading this doc.

The beauty of it is that it’s really simple to set. All you need to do to get the dark theme is go to the backend of your WordPress site > PeepSo config > Appearance and change the theme from Light to Dark.

Email Notifications

Email notifications have a great impact on a community. We’ve improved the content of the notifications so that they’ll be even more effective and we’ve also created a beautiful new template that’s super-clean.

Beautiful and clean email notifications.

If you are upgrading PeepSo we can’t override your notifications settings so we added a Reset button. If you haven’t made any changes to the email notifications text you can update it now by clicking the button in the Settings.

Who’s Online?

This release introduces information about users currently online. The online status will be displayed right next to users’ names making contact fast and easy. It’s shown on users profiles:

Online indication on profile and chat.

It’s also shown on user listings like the members page.

ReCaptcha

PeepSo Core now uses ReCaptcha on the registration form. With your registration protected from all those spam bots, there’s no more need for a third party solution. You can easily configure ReCaptcha in PeepSo backend and it works brilliantly on registration.

Bugfixes and other small improvements

In addition to those changes, we also improved avatar quality; resized and compressed profile cover photos to enhance performance; and adjusted the cover photo vertically and horizontally depending on the used image ratio and many more. You can see the full changelog here.

Adjust panorama cover photo horizontally.

Under-the-hood

We started a long term effort to speed up PeepSo as it grows. We implemented speed measuring routines in some of the under-the-hood logic to track down parts that run too slow. In the first wave of improvements we refactored some user search logic and shortened the average page load time by 5-10 seconds in a few worst case scenario websites with a large user base.

PeepSo 1.3.0 Is Out!

In version 1.3.0, we focused on tweaking some of the features. These tweaks are important for future versions.

Groundwork Laid For One-Click Updates For All Plugins

We’ve started the process of preparing PeepSo for one-click updates. Instead of uninstalling then re-installing all the plugins, for future versions you’ll be able to just click the update link next to each plugin. Very simple.

This function will start working in the next version of PeepSo. This should be the last time you update manually. Please remember that this is still work in progress. It will look somewhat like this:

One click updates and upgrades for PeepSo and its plugins.

PeepSo’s Router Re-Written

Now that PeepSo has been out for a while, we have had reports of a few URLs and third party plugins not working well with PeepSo.

To improve the compatibility and stability of the plugins, we wrote the router. That should avoid issues with popular plugins like WPML which change the URL of the page by making additions like:
‘?lang=french’
This improvement is strictly under the hood. The only change you’ll see is the construction of the URLs. That’s usually just the addition of a question mark.

This is how the profile link appears in PeepSo 1.2.1:
http://sampledomain.com/profile/eric

And this is how the link appears in PeepSo 1.3.0:
http://sampledomain.com/profile/?eric

Three-State Friends Buttons

We also changed the behavior, look and feel of the action buttons on user profiles. Adding friends is now a three-state button with no modal confirmations needed. It’s all ajaxified too.

3-state friends buttons on user listings

3-state friends buttons on user listings

Those action buttons have also been added to all user listings. You can see them on members pages, user profiles, and your friend list. The design is consistent to give users a feeling of confidence and to avoid confusion.

Styling Tweaks and More Changes To Profile Pages

We made a few minor changes to the profile pages:

  • Blocking users has been moved to a ‘cog’ icon.
  • Users can be banned from the front end by clicking the cog icon.
  • To save space, we replaced the “Send Message” button with an envelope icon.
  • We improved the look and feel of the modal window for sending messages.
  • Square avatars
  • Removed gray shadow stripe and added shadow for letters
Profile view after styling tweaks.

We’ve made sure that PeepSo styling is consistent. That’s why we went with square and sharp edges over rounded corners and round avatars. If you feel like all square is not your thing, feel free to check out our documentation on how to override PeepSo CSS.

Bug Fixes

In addition to those design and functionality tweaks, we also fixed a number of bugs. You can see the full changelog here.

What, No Chat Plugin?

The chat plugin is almost ready. It just needs a few design tweaks and some testing. It will be released next. Watch out for it!

PeepSo 1.2.0

PeepSo 1.2.0 Is Out!

We’re proud to announce the release of PeepSo 1.2.0. This release focuses on Core PeepSo and MsgSo. We added a bunch of new features and improved others.

Core PeepSo Improvements

Members Page

PeepSo 1.1.0 introduced a Members Page that listed community members and included a search field. This version adds sorting and filters.

You can sort users by:

  • Alphabetical order
  • Recently online
  • Latest members

You can also select members by gender and only view users who have uploaded avatars. Combining filters means you could search for “female users with avatars who were recently online.” Cool, right? You could even filter further by adding a name and looking for “female users with avatars who were recently online and called ‘Jane.’”

We used Ajax to power the search which means there are no reloads and everything is superfast. Want to see how fast? Check this out.

Native WordPress oEmbeds in PeepSo

Paste a video link or Instagram link into a Web page and you immediately get a preview of the destination. It’s very cool… so we now do the same thing in Peepso. Paste a link and those oEmbeds (that’s what they’re called) will give your audience a preview. This is how it looks.

Cool, right?

MsgSo improvements

Ajax worked so well in Search that we decided to use it to improve Messages as well. Now there’s no need to reload a page when sending a message and when someone contacts you, you’ll receive both a notification and the message itself. It works exactly like a chat.

You can even see when someone is in the process of typing to you, so no more crossed messages or wondering whether you’re being ignored.

Messages indicate when someone’s typing.

We’ve added many more small improvements and fixes. You can read about all the major features of this release here. The full changelog will tell you everything we did. To see what we are planning next, check out our Roadmap here.

Don’t wait. Upgrade to the latest version today. You can find upgrade instructions here.
