New Release: PeepSo & Gecko 3.1.0.0

Social Login is now live. Improved notifications related to photos. Compatibility with WordPress 5.6, WooCommerce 4.8, and limited compatibility with PHP 8.0.

PHP 8 (and more)

PeepSo guarantees limited compatibility with PHP 8 – Gecko Theme, Foundation, Core and Extras. We are unable to guarantee compatibility with Integration and Monetization plugins, because the third parties are not ready yet. The current recommended version is PHP 7.4 as it seems the WordPress world outside the PeepSo team will not be ready for PHP 8 for at least a couple of months.

The next major PeepSo Release (3.2.0.0) will drop support for PHP 7.0 and 7.1 and will require at least PHP 7.2

WordPress 5.6 & WooCommerce 4.8

PeepSo 3.1.0.0 is the first version to officially support the newly released WordPress 5.6 and WooCommerce 4.8. We don’t expect any issues here with any major developers, but if you are using any plugins from smaller developers, it’s best to be careful when upgrading, as some almost-abandonware plugins / themes might not be ready for the new versions.

Improved notifications related to photos

Notifications related to photos no longer simply lead to the PeepSo post, but instead open a relevant photo in a lightbox view.

It’s especially important for posts that have multiple photos in them – until now, a notification related to one of the photos was opening the original post, and user had to look for the comment thread.

This major improvement took a few months to write, as there are quite a few scenarios to be considered (comment on a photo, reply to a comment on a photo, like / reaction to a photo / comment / reply, mentions etc).

Because of architectural limitations, some notifications about likes and reactions made before 3.1.0.0 might still lead to the original post. This is because we needed to store more information about likes/reactions to be able to identify precisely which photo in the set they are related to. All comments / likes / reactions notifications created after 3.1.0.0 are expected to work fine.

Social Login & Invitations

The Social Login & Invitations plugin is now ready for production. Starting with this release, it’s does not require Early Access to run. it has also been extended with a new provider: you can now configure login / registration with Discord.

Stepping up from the role of a contractor to a business owner, I became [PeepSo](https://PeepSo.com) founder and Chief Technology Officer. Social login will probably make life easier 🙂 However, I just tried to make Facebook work, and the provided link (https://developers.facebook.com/apps) redirects back to ...com.

now we just need to add Apple Sign In. It will be very useful for those who have an app and use the webview for users login. Similar to:

@peepso_user_10(Matt Jaworski) if I upgrade to 8 to see if everything works. Say it don't work. can I then downgrade back to 7.4 and everything goes back to the way it was before. Just curious? Thanks

@peepso_user_2999(Jesse EVANS) it does not sound like a good idea. Better to start a separate staging site on PHP8, if anything.
