Today marks one of the most significant milestones in PeepSo’s journey. With the release of PeepSo 8.0.0.0, we are pushing the boundaries of what a modern, private, and fully-owned social network can be inside WordPress. This update represents months of focused development, thoughtful redesigns, deep architectural improvements, and a renewed commitment to speed, stability, and user experience. It is not just an upgrade. It is a leap forward.

New and Noteworthy

One of the most visible changes arrives in the Activity Stream and Members areas. Both have been completely redesigned to feel more modern, more intuitive, and more engaging. Stream Filters have been rebuilt from the ground up, delivering a cleaner and more powerful way to browse your community’s posts. The Members listing redesign introduces a fresh visual identity and smoother interactions unified across the entire plugin suite, supported by a new round of icons introduced in phase two of our icon refresh.

For administrators, version 8.0.0.0 delivers more control across the board. You can now decide where repost functionality should appear, tailor Ajax callback behavior with a new option to disable nonce checks, and take advantage of improved email deliverability guidance inside PeepSo’s configuration. A new cron task helps maintain healthy communities by removing inactive users automatically. We have also introduced clearer aria-labels for accessibility, smarter handling of tagging when pressing Enter on multi-selections, and improved widget rendering to make custom layouts behave more reliably.

This release also brings an important shift for Early Access users. New Stream filters now include Unread Posts and Unread Comments, giving power users and heavy communities more efficient ways to stay on top of active discussions. Search results can now include WP Adverts listings, and we have standardized naming conventions in the Search configuration for a cleaner, more predictable backend experience. We also addressed a reported XSS vulnerability to ensure the highest security standards remain in place.

Improvements and Fixes

Video handling has received major infrastructure upgrades as we migrate from Amazon Elastic Transcoder to AWS Elemental MediaConvert. Africa now receives its own bucket location for faster uploads and processing across the continent. Autoplaying videos behave better as well, with a new option that allows videos to stop entirely when scrolling out of view rather than simply pausing.

The PeepSo App benefits from performance enhancements with long-polls now turned off by default. We have tested across WordPress 6.9 and PHP 8.4 to ensure stable compatibility for every user. Deprecated Google Places Autocomplete services have been phased out, SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS is no longer used in the comments logic, and the Block Theme installer now includes direct support for the new PeepSo Block Theme. When the Block Theme is active, color preset options are automatically hidden to avoid conflicts and simplify the customization workflow.

Bug fixes in this release cover a wide range of scenarios, from missing sidebars in WooCommerce profile cart pages using the PeepSo Block Theme, to styling issues introduced by the new member listing design. We corrected problems with mutual friend displays, removed the “resend activation code” button from the horizontal login block, fixed the missing reply button in certain pinned-post comment setups, and resolved issues with anonymous user ID storage. Clearing post text when an attachment is present now works as expected, deprecated WordPress 6.9 functions have been updated, and PHP 8.2 handling of HTML entities no longer triggers warnings. Early Access search configuration issues have been resolved as well.

PeepSo Block Theme

The PeepSo Block Theme continues to evolve with the addition of a dedicated Logo block and improvements to megamenus, dark mode behavior, and opacity handling for hidden blocks. While the Gecko Theme remains unchanged in this cycle, the wider move toward block-based theming continues to open powerful new possibilities for site owners.
